The first week we didn't really do much. Why? Because it freakin' SNOWED...in MAY!!! I think there was one nice day in there but it was pretty much just like a weekend in February. Yuck!
The 6th was FINALLY a nice day so after work we quickly ate an early dinner and went out to Racoon River Park and walked the trail.
Boston loved it. He got tired and would sit for a bit in the stroller but he did really well on such a long walk. Scott and I were pretty tired by the end of it so I know Boston had to be!
Somewhere in there we went to a couple of Scott's brother, Mike's, softball games out at Walker Johnston Park. As we were walking up to the fields, Boston was running ahead a lil ways and all of a sudden we hear "HEADS UP"...I yelled at Boston and then froze, Scott tried running up to him and all I could think was "my son is going to get knocked out by that foul ball" Luckily, when I (and everyone else) yelled at Boston he stopped in his tracks...that softball landed about a foot infront of him and barely missed the bill of his hat when it bounced over! Scared the shit outta me! It was a fun time after that initial fright. Boston played on the playground and we watched the game. I think he's going to be a baseball player...he's just not agressive enough to really play sports like football or soccer. And he's kinda lazy....but damn if he isn't cute in that baseball hat!
Saturday we had soccer...which has become a waste of time. Boston just doens't want to do it. He'd rather play around by himself without anyone telling him what to do next. Sounds like his mother. After nap time, we went out to the Saylorville campsites where Scott's brother and sister-in-law were camping (Mike and Kim). We had some burgers and chilli and Boston had a hotdog. He is starting to get a LITTLE more independent...he walked off to the playground without anyone with him. (we could see him just fine where we were). He made friends with a little girl, Violet, and they played and played! I loved it. I love that he is getting to the point where he is ok without me around so much. It'll be sad when he never wants me around but sometimes this mama needs a break. Mike and Kim are one of those unfortunate couple who were unable to have kids and they are both GREAT with kids, so its sad. Kim loves playing with Boston and he's started to take a liking to her.
Sunday was Mother's Day. Scott had taken Boston to some ceramic place with Holly and Mary and Boston painted a ceramic dog for me. I love it! It looks just like our puppy will and it was handmade so its perfect. I'll treasure it forever. We went out to the campsites at Saylorville for a late breakfast with Scott's family. Scott can barely stand being around his mom and her negativity (I kind of agree) so it didn't bother us that we had to leave. We met my family out at Thomas Mitchell Park, where we've apparently gone the past like....4 years but I only remember twice...? I dunno. Oh well. We had a picnic and walked the trail up to the Devotie gravesite. That person was apparently a relative of my dads mom...? Something like that. Both Boston and Presley had a great time running around and racing and chasing each other.
Once we got to the gravesite (not a short hike) Boston decided that he wanted his water. Well, it was all the way back at the picnic table. Scott offered him his bottled water but Boston refused and said he was going to go get his and started walking back down the trail. I was very curious to see how far he'd actually go without me but then again I didn't want him to get lost so I followed from a distance.
At one point he turned around and realized I was behind him and started running. So I took off after him. I knew it was going to freak him out because...well, it just does. So he screamed like he was terrifed! I'm not sure if he was upset that he couldn't get his water or if I had scared the bejesus outta him. He was very angry for most of the hike back to the table. Once we got back we sat down and Steve and Presley went fishing and Boston decided to roll down the hill...it was quite entertaining.
He had a great time. We all did. Unfortunately, we had to leave a little early because I had a softball game (what moron schedules a softball game on Mother's Day! Anyways, we got our butts kicked and that was that.
This coming weekend we have the CF walk! Always love that! Then we start moving into Scott's house. I'm a little nervous and a little sad. I love my little house and have made it MY home. As my mom told me "...now you know you can do it, so take strength in that" Thanks Mom. That really helped. I'm going to miss it because it was MY first place, on my own, just me and Boston. :( On to bigger and better things now though.
NEXT Thursday the 23rd Scott and I will be leaving for VEGAS!! No, we're not getting married as everyone seems to assume. We're just going for a little getaway. I don't think I've ever been away from Boston for this long or this far. When I took him up to Fargo it was only two nights and he was a half hour away. I hadn't thought about that...now, I'm kind of sad... :( We get back the 26th and then have Monday off for Memorial Day. Totally didn't plan that but it worked out great!
The FOLLOWING weekend, June 1st, we'll be driving to Missouri to pick up our little Sandy! (Boston named her after the Sandman in Rise of the Guardians) I thought it was fitting since she'll be like his 'guardian' :) We got some update pictures on Sunday...
So cute!! I can't wait!!
May is going to be a-MAY-zing! lol
